Materials: 2 balls Parrot
Size: approx 7 x 8”
Knitting Needles: US 13, stitch markers, 2 slotted purse handles (available from JoAnne’s Fabrics, or Sunbelt Fasteners).
Gauge: Approx. 2¼ sts = 1” measured over pattern on size US 13 needles.
Purse: Shaped with short rows.
With size 13 needles, loosely cast on 36 sts. Place a marker 5 sts from each end.
Row 1(RS): Knit.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Knit to farthest marker, wrap next st and turn.
Row 4: Purl to the farthest marker, wrap next st and turn.
Row 5: Knit to end of row.
Row 6: Knit.
Row 7: Knit.
Row 8: Purl to farthest marker, wrap next st and turn.
Row 9: Knit to the farthest marker, wrap next st and turn.
Row 10: Purl to end of row.
Repeat last 10 rows until almost out of yarn, leaving about 3 yards for bind off and sewing. End on either row 2 or 7 if possible. Bind off knitwise.
Weave in all ends. Fold purse in half widthwise and push the beginning and ending shorter sections (the 5 st sections where full rows were not done) through the slots in the purse handles. Fold over about ½” and tack down on inside of handles. Sew up side seams leaving about 3” open at top on each side. Line if desired.
