Ladies V-neck Vest
Materials: 3 (4, 4) 100g balls of Encore Worsted color # 9625
Needles: Size 6 & 7- 24”, or those needed to achieve gauge; 4 buttons.
Finishes: 40 (44, 48)”.
Length: 20½ (21½, 22½”).
GAUGE: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4” in st st on size 7 needles.
NOTES: Vest is worked in one piece to the armholes.
With smaller needles, cast on 207 (227, 247) sts.
Knit 4 rows. Next row (1st buttonhole): K4, YO, K2TOG, knit to end of row. Knit 5 more rows.
Change to larger needles and continue as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 (WS): K7, P to last 7 sts, K7.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 10½”, end by working a RS row.
AT THE SAME TIME: Make a buttonhole every 3½” on a RS row as above until there are a total of 4 buttonholes.
Next row (WS): K7, P28 (33, 38), K35, P67 (77, 87), K35, P28 (33, 38), K7.
Next row (RS): Knit.
Repeat last two rows 3 more times, and then the first row again, keeping the continuity of the buttonholes. Divide for armholes (RS): K42 (47, 52) for the right front, bind off 21 sts, K81 (91, 101) for the back, bind off 21 sts, K42 (47, 52) for the left front.
LEFT FRONT
Working on first 42 (47, 52) sts continue as follows:
Row 1: K7, Purl to last 7 stitches, K7.
Row 2: Knit to last 9 sts, K2TOG, K7.
Row 3: Same as Row 1.
Row 4: Knit.
Repeat the last 4 rows 12 more times: 29 (34, 39) sts remain.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until armhole measures 9 (10, 11)”. Bind off all sts.
BACK
Reattach yarn and work across the next 81 (91, 101) sts for the back as follows:
Row 1: K7, P to the last 7 stitches, K7.
Row 2: Knit.
Repeat last two rows until armhole measures 7½ (8½, 9½)”.
Next row: K7, P15 (20, 25), K37, P15 (20, 25), K7.
Next row: Knit.
Repeat the last two rows 3 more times and then the first row again. Bind off all sts.
RIGHT FRONT
Reattach yarn and work across the remaining 42 (47, 52) sts as follows:
Row 1: K7, Purl to last 7 sts, K7.
Row 2: K7, SSK, knit to end.
Row 3: Same as Row 1.
Row 4: Knit.
Repeat the last 4 rows 12 more times: 29 (34, 39) sts remain.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until armhole measures 9 (10, 11)”. Bind off all sts.
FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Weave in all ends.
