Size: 5” (6”) diameter, 7” (8”) tall.
Materials: 2-100g balls Encore Worsted color 1233 ( left- pattern 1) color 1203 (center- pattern 3) & color 515 (right- pattern 2), 16” circular and double pointed needles size 7 or those needed to achieve gauge.
Gauge: 5 sts = 1” in st st.
With double pointed needles, cast on 6 sts. Divide them evenly onto 3 needles. Join.
Round 1 and all odd numbered rounds: Purl.
Round 2: Knit into the front and the back of every stitch (12 sts.).
Round 4: (K1, knit into the front and the back of next stitch), repeat around (18 sts.).
Round 6: (K2, knit into the front and the back of next stitch), repeat around (24 sts.). Round 8: (K3, knit into the front and the back of next stitch), repeat around (30 sts.).
Continue increasing every other round as established until there are 72 (96) sts. Change to the 16” circular needle when there are enough stitches. When you do, place marker at beginning of round.
Continue working in garter st ( knit 1 round, purl 1 round) without further increases, for 1/2”, p2tog once on last round: 71 (95)st. Work in pattern stitch #1, #2, or #3 until total height is 6 (7)”.
Pattern # 1: *(K5, p1), repeat from * , ignoring beginning of round marker, until
3 rounds short of total height is reached, purl 1 round, knit 2 rounds.
Pattern # 2: Work 12 rounds st st, 3 rounds garter stitch (P1 round, K1 round, P1 round), 6 rounds st st, 3 rounds garter stitch, 6 rounds st st, 3 rounds garter stitch, work in st st until total height is reached.
Pattern # 3: *(Work 6 rounds st st, work 6 rounds in seed st. (k1, p1), repeat around for 6 rounds ignoring beginning of row marker,) repeat from * until 2 rounds short of total length is reached, knit 2 rounds.
Eyelet round: (YO, K2tog, k4) repeat around to last 5 stitches, yo, k2tog, k3.
Work 4 more rounds in st st (knit every round). Purl 1 round. Knit 1 round.
Purl 1 round. Bind off knitwise.
Make 2 twisted cords using 4 strands each, each about 24" - 36" long depending on length of drawstrings desired. Weave them through the eyelet round, going in opposite directions, so that handles are on opposite sides. Weave in ends.
Twisted cord: Cut 4 strands of yarn 3 times the desired finished length. Knot them together at each end. Place 1 end over a doorknob and slip a pencil through the other end. Begin twisting clockwise until the strands are so well twisted that they begin to twist back on themselves. Keeping the twisted strands taut, fold the cord in half. Remove the pencil and allow the cord to twist back on itself. Remove the end from the doorknob and knot it.
